Fifty sight words are taught in a very controlled and repetitive format.

Sight vocabulary must be taught in a meaningful sentence.

                                          Sight Vocabulary

The ten most common words in the English language:

          I,  a,  and,  is,  of,  the,  to,  you,  in,  that

Color words:  red, yellow, green, black, purple, brown, blue, orange         

Number words:   one, two, three, four, five, six   

Opposites:  up - down, big - little, stop - go,  boy - girl, dog - cat, yes - no 

Action words:  see, want, said, look, open, like, love, thank, have

Additional:  we, can, my, for, at                           

Masters for flash cards of the words are included.   A great deal of practice and repetition is necessary.  Using the flash cards is very important.

Mastery is stressed in small increments.  Children have progress charts and are individually tested.

Never have them spell sight vocabulary as a way to teach it.

Sight vocabulary is never sounded out.  Many sight words break the phonetic rules.

Punctuation marks are taught:  period, comma, question mark, quotation marks and exclamation point. The names and meaning are essential. Flash cards are included.
